
Julie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18 1999) is an American actor and singer. Her career spanned more 40 years. London was a torch-singer and was well-known for her smooth, soft vocals. She recorded more than 30 albums of standards and jazz from 1955 until 1969. The album she released as her debut "Cry Me a River" that she recorded was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was nominated for the Golden Globe Award for her performance as Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa to vaudevillian parents. Her professional career began as an actress , while she worked as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles. London's 35 year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It featured parts in the lead female role in a variety of westerns. In the mid-1950s she signed a recording deal with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. She released her final studio album in the year 1969, but continued to have success as the female starring role of nurse Dixie McCall in the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), she starred with her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
